Where to Stay in the Prosecco Hills
Stay in Conegliano if you're arriving by train and don't want a car: direct trains from Venice take 50–68 minutes. Stay in Valdobbiadene or the hills between if you want to be among the vineyards, but plan on a car or a tour, as buses link the towns, not the wineries. Venice or Treviso work as a base for a single day trip.

Which base to choose
| Base | Good for | Getting around |
|---|---|---|
| Conegliano | Train travellers, a real town with shops and restaurants | Direct trains from Venice; no car needed in town |
| Valdobbiadene | The steepest vineyards, Cartizze, wine villages | Car or tour; bus 132 from Conegliano on weekdays only |
| The hills between | Wine estates and agriturismi, quiet nights | Car needed |
| Venice or Treviso | A single day trip | Train to Conegliano or a day tour |
Conegliano is the only base that works without a car. Direct regional trains run from Venezia Santa Lucia every 20–30 minutes, in 50–68 minutes, for €6.60 (checked on Trenitalia, 23 September 2026). The station sits at the edge of the old town. See Venice to the Prosecco hills and the Conegliano guide.
Valdobbiadene is at the western end of the hills, 33 km and about 44 minutes’ drive from Conegliano. It has no railway station. MOM bus 132 from Conegliano takes about 55 minutes on weekdays. From here you’re close to Cartizze and the steepest vineyards. See the Valdobbiadene guide.
The hills between hold the wine estates and agriturismi (farm stays), around villages such as Rolle, Cison di Valmarino, Follina and Farra di Soligo. Nights are quiet. You need a car, and the driver can’t taste much, so book dinner where you sleep.
Venice or Treviso suit a single day trip. From Venice, take the train to Conegliano or a day tour that picks you up. Driving from Piazzale Roma takes about 48 minutes to Conegliano and 1 hour 7 minutes to Valdobbiadene (Google Maps, 23 September 2026).

Before you book
- Book dinner too. Outside Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the nearest restaurant may be a drive away. Places with their own restaurant save you driving after a tasting.
- Check the bus if you have no car. Buses link the towns, not the estates, and Sunday service is thin. See Venice to the Prosecco hills.
- Harvest is busy. The harvest usually starts in early September, and spring has the Primavera del Prosecco wine shows. Book ahead for both. See the best time to visit.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to stay in the Prosecco region?
Conegliano if you're coming by train and want a town with restaurants within walking distance. Valdobbiadene or a wine estate in the hills if you have a car and want to wake up among the vineyards. Both are in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG area, about 33 km apart.
Can you stay in the Prosecco hills without a car?
Yes, in Conegliano. Its station has direct trains from Venice every 20–30 minutes, and the old town is a short walk away. Valdobbiadene is reachable by MOM bus 132 from Conegliano on weekdays (about 55 minutes), but buses don't serve the wineries in the hills, and we found no Sunday timetable for that line.
Are there wineries you can stay at in the Prosecco hills?
Yes. Locanda Sandi belongs to the Villa Sandi winery near Valdobbiadene, Agriturismo Vedova has rooms above its own vineyard, Duca di Dolle is a wine estate in Rolle, and Foresteria Borgoluce sits on a 1,000-hectare farm estate that makes its own Prosecco Superiore.
Is it better to stay in Venice and day-trip to the Prosecco hills?
For one day of tasting, yes: a day tour picks you up in Venice, or you take the train to Conegliano. For two days or more, sleeping in the hills saves a daily round trip of about two hours by train to Conegliano, and longer to Valdobbiadene. It also lets you see the vineyards in the morning and evening.
