Valdobbiadene: What to See and How to Get There

Valdobbiadene is the town at the western end of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco hills, right below the Cartizze vineyards. It has no railway station: it's 1 hour 7 minutes by car from Venice, or about 55 minutes by MOM bus 132 from Conegliano on weekdays. Give it half a day with a winery visit, or use it as a base.

What it is

Valdobbiadene (population 9,865, Wikipedia) is the town at the western end of the DOCG hills, at 247 m. It gives the wine half its name, and the Cartizze hill lies in its hamlets of San Pietro di Barbozza, Santo Stefano and Saccol.

What to see

  • Piazza Marconi: the central square. It’s the start of two signed town walks, 4 km and 5 km, with GPX files on the town’s tourism site.
  • The bell tower, designed by Francesco Maria Preti, next to the Duomo.
  • Villa dei Cedri (Via Piva 89): an early-19th-century villa with a large park open to the public (Wikipedia). It houses the office of the Strada del Prosecco, open Monday to Friday 9:00–12:30 and 15:00–18:00.
  • The Cartizze hill: a few minutes east by car. Walk the 10 km Anello del Prosecco loop or stop at a winery.
