Best Time to Visit the Prosecco Hills
Go from late April to June, or in September and October. Spring has the Primavera del Prosecco wine shows in the villages (13 March to 14 June in 2026) and mild weather. The harvest usually starts in early September. July and August are hot, with average highs of about 30°C on the nearby plain, and winter days are short and cold.

Spring: Primavera del Prosecco
Each spring the villages hold their own wine shows, together called the Primavera del Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco. The 2026 edition had 15 shows, from 13 March to 14 June (official site):
- Santo Stefano: 13–29 March
- San Pietro di Barbozza: 5–19 April
- Col San Martino: 9–26 April
- Refrontolo: 25 April – 10 May
- Cison di Valmarino: 1–10 May
- San Pietro di Feletto: 30 May – 14 June
Check the official site for next year’s dates.
May: Vino in Villa
The Conegliano Valdobbiadene festival, Vino in Villa, is held on the third weekend of May. The Sunday tasting is at the Castello di San Salvatore in Susegana (Consorzio). Check the exact date on the Consorzio’s site before you plan around it.
September: the harvest
The harvest (vendemmia) usually starts in early September, sometimes in late August in hot years. In 2024 the first zones started the first weekend of September. In 2026 the Consorzio held its pre-harvest meetings on 20 and 25 August (ANSA).
It’s a beautiful time to see the hills, but it’s the wineries’ busiest weeks. Book visits early and expect some to say no.
Days of the week
- Weekdays are easiest if you’re using buses.
- Saturdays work. Bus line 132 has its own Saturday timetable.
- Sundays: trains from Venice to Conegliano run as normal, but we found no Sunday bus timetable between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Take a tour or drive, and confirm your winery booking.
Frequently asked questions
When is the Prosecco harvest?
Usually early to mid-September, and sometimes from late August in hot years. In 2024 the Consorzio said the first zones would start the first weekend of September, and in 2025 the official start was in early September. Wineries are busiest then, so book any visit well ahead.
What is the Primavera del Prosecco?
A season of local wine shows held in the villages of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene hills each spring. The 2026 edition ran 15 shows from 13 March to 14 June (official site), from Santo Stefano in March to San Pietro di Feletto in June.
Is it worth visiting the Prosecco hills in winter?
It's possible, but it's the weakest season. Average highs on the nearby plain are 8–10°C in December to February, the vines are bare, and days are short. The Strada's Visit Cantina programme of booked winery visits runs until December. If you only have a winter day in Venice, a tour is the easiest way to go.
Can you visit the Prosecco hills on a Sunday?
Yes, with a tour or a car. Trains from Venice to Conegliano run on Sundays too. But we found no Sunday bus timetable between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, and we couldn't confirm which wineries open on Sundays, so book a tasting before you go.
